The Proposal

On January 18th, 2012, I finally turned 21! My 21st birthday came on a Wednesday, and the following Friday at 6:00 AM I got on an early flight with three of my best friends to Las Vegas! The story however, starts about a week earlier, when Blake and I were out to lunch. I was meeting him at Chipolte (his favorite place in Salt Lake to have a quick lunch), and I was almost there when I received a text from him that said, "I have some bad news."  You see Blake was supposed to be on that 6:00 AM flight to Las Vegas with me, but when I arrived at Chipolte, Blake already had his credit card out and told me he had to meet me in Vegas late on Friday night because he was going to have to work and there was no way he could get out of it. I was so sad he was going to miss out on an entire day of Vegas with us, but there was just nothing we could do about it.

So at 7:45 AM we landed in the beautiful sin city! We were all pretty tired so we went to the hotel, checked in and went to sleep for an hour or two. When we woke up we all got ready for the day and headed out to the strip.  We had some brunch, did some shopping, and then we got our make up done for the night.  Almost immediately after getting our make up done, Blake called me. He told me he had booked something for me before he found out he wasn't going to be there, and he already paid for it so I had to go! I figured it was a massage or a facial.  Blake's sister Chadney was with us and she walked us over to the nearest hotel where we got in a fancy car and headed toward the Wynn.  Little did I know, we weren't going to the Wynn, we were headed to the Stratosphere.  At this point I had figured out that I was not going in for a spa treatment after all, as there are several nice spas on the Las Vegas strip, the Stratosphere does not host one of them.

At the Stratosphere I get another phone call from my darling Blake. This time he says, "I just want you to know that I already paid for it, and I love you. My sister and your friends know where to take you." Now I knew exactly what he had bought me for my "birthday".  Two minutes later we were walking into SkyJump. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Vegas, the Stratosphere is one of the tallest hotels on the strip, and at the very top of the hotel there are a couple of rides, and the exciting opportunity to jump off of the top of the building. If you know Blake, you know what he booked for me. Yes, I was going to Jump off of the top of a very large building.

After suiting up, weighing in, saying a prayer, and taking the elevator to the very top floor (bashing on my "stupid boyfriend" the entire way), I finally got the courage to stand on the platform, and JUMP! About ten seconds, a very loud scream, a lot of laughing, and a little bit of crying later I was on the ground again.

All my friends were on the sideline clapping and laughing at me, and as I walked over to them, out from behind them came Blake.  He got on one knee and said, "After a fall like that, this shouldn't seem so scary, will you marry me?"

Talk about an adrenaline rush! I had just jumped off a building, been surprised by my cute boyfriend, and then he had asked me to marry him all within the same 15 seconds. Of course I said yes, and then I was really screaming, laughing, and a little bit of crying. I was so happy, and I still am! I can't believe I get to marry someone as amazing as Blake! :)
